Nadine Baurin Fine Art invites you to the closing reception for "Enchanted," featuring the art of Diana Carey on Saturday, February 8 from 4-8p.m. Carey has been on exhibit since early December, showcasing paintings from her Tangles series and contemporary frescoes. In this closing reception the Gallery will also be exclusively exhibiting Carey's Hearts of Stone work.
Begun in 2008, her ongoing Tangles series focuses on the landscape, with scenes of beach grass, stands of trees, and the flowering flora of Southern California. Her technique of thrown and splattered paint gives a pervasive energy to her paintings, while allowing the essence, rather than a precise image, to emerge.
Carey’s award winning contemporary frescoes and Hearts of Stone are made by breaking natural stone and then painting an image that Carey sees develop from the natural and contrived breaks, with numerous applications of paint and sealants. These works have been exhibited nationally and internationally in galleries and museums. Hearts of Stone are contemporary frescoes with a heart image that has been broken, mended and celebrated as metaphorical love. Hearts of Stone are generally by commission only but Carey has been persuaded to make a few for this closing exhibit which coincides with the upcoming Valentine's Day.
Diana Carey has exhibited her work extensively, including her solo exhibitions at the Japanese Friendship Garden, 4 Walls Design Gallery, Trios Gallery, Brooks Community Theatre, The Lyceum all in San Diego, and Territories Gallery, Tucson. Her group exhibitions include those at The San Diego Art Institute Museum, The Gotthelf Gallery, La Jolla, The National Museum of Catholic Art and History, New York, The New York Arts Club and The Historical Society of Washington, D.C. Internationally she is represented by the Culture Inside Gallery in Luxembourg.
